queen of denial

As far as the class is concerned, I feel I am getting great insight into the art of film making. I have been on several movie sets watching filming and never gave it much thought as to the complexity of it all. I view films in a different light now. I find that I am breaking scenes down to see what emotion I have and then ask, like we did in the class..how was the lighting? how was the sound? the view from the camera? And as Prof. Rousso-Schindler suggested, I gazed at some still photography this weekend to help develop an artistic eye.

stunning research revolution

As part of my part of my research I went to a Woman's health Clinic and stopped at one of my Dr's offices to say hi. the first thing I noticed was the weight of the nurses working there...I would say the range on the 3 of them (not total weight) was from 175-325. I found that this bothered me on a lot of levels since I have to work so hard and over compensate to keep my health balanced to be just to be near normal. What bothered me the most is WHY, ARE THESE WOMEN not GETTING THE MESSAGE about woman's heart health, when they work around it all day long. What can I possibly do for my film that might have more impact to motivate women to be heart healthy. How do I need to do to drive that message home ?????

Week 3

We tossed around film ideas and selected teams for a few weeks. I will be making my film without a team, not because i wouldn't like to be part of that team effort,I would . I think it helps build a better film to have various and opposing view points. I choose not to be on a team as I don't want to put my team at risk by me not being available for them due to potential work scheduling conflicts. We are starting to roll up our sleeves to put our films together. Week 4 we have to make a "pitch" about our film, so it has made me focused harder on how I want to structure the film. I knew the topic: woman's heart health, and the Focus point: Knowing heart attack symptoms. More later as my PITCH comes together!

Diary of A Web Film Girl

<meta name="ProgId" content="Word.Document">

I consider myself VERY lucky to be able to do what I love and Love what I do ...or is it the other way around? In any case over the summer I started working on a project for my work which is Public Relations Coordinator for the College of Liberal Arts. My goal is to be able to publish small film snippets on the college website. A very critical component to doing this is that my projects MUST be ADA 508 compliant. I will write more on this subject over the semester. I also had the challenge of learning a number of software programs. Learning maybe a very rambunctious statement, I actually got what I needed to put a snippet together from each program, but need a lot more quality time to really be proficient at them. Below are some of the steps I went through to produce a minute and a half worth of film.

GOAL: DRIVE THE TECHNICAL BUS

Learning and developing Video podasting. This entailed obtaining and learning multiple software . learning through podcasts as well as manuals. I am also developing a training manual on my findings.

ADA (508.) compliance

Took Lynda.com class podcast in Closed Captioning. Learning software for closed captioning. (MAGPIE 2, Captionate, FLASH )

Class Infomercials;

Intro: As a test I filmed and uploaded a film (with a Canon PowerShot SD800 IS_ and really it wasn't bad) I recorded of the drummers from the CLA commencement. In reviewing the weekly College of Liberal Arts Google Analytical data on the college web I noted that the our viewer ship went from an average view time of approximately 1.40 minutes .to 2 minutes with that video posting. I believe that class infomercials are a great marketing tool for our college. I will continue to monitor the weekly analytical evaluations.

I developed a 2 part infomercial for American Indian Studies 420 that will be displayed on the college web home page from initial concept to storyboard preparation through the edit phase to final product. Currently the film is produced and pending the final phase of uploading to the college web page.

The Process: Faculty had old VHS tapes of Pow Wow. I arranged for digital recording to be made from tapes so that it could be used in the editing software. I learned and used multiple equipment and multiple new software to facilitate the film. I set up a recording session with the Professor for sound bytes. I transcribed all of the sound bytes so that it could be used in the closed captioning software. I edited the film using different tracks for sound bytes, music and film. For this project I would like to be evaluated on the process more than the quality. I believe the quality will be achieved in the future as better quality equipment is used and familiarity with the software is achieved.

New Software Skills:

Audacity; to record Sound Bytes

AVS4U (Software conversion software); ie; from .avi files to flv. Etc.

Microsoft Movie Maker AND

Sony Vegas editing film

Edited sound bytes (removed blips etc);

Edited music concurrent to voice sound bytes

Edited film clips

.508 compliance (Closed Captioning)

Transcribing sound bytes

MAGPIE 2

Making it web ready;
